Why would anyone go deeper and deeper until the differences in what they do for their ideal clients become blazingly clear?

Join me on a short mental experiment and then decide yourself…

All eyes are on the speaker now.

You can see the wheels churning…

Would I?

How does that differ to my specific situation?

If he’s really specialized in hearts…

Yes, I think I’d trust him!

Sounds like this is some sort of health event?

Not at all – I heard this question nearly 15 years ago in a presentation of a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

And it stuck with me…

By then I was already specialized in services marketing for SME with a focus on HR.

And still this simple question popped into my brain again and again…

I asked myself: Where could I go deeper, get more specific and be clearer in my communication?

Because one thing became very clear: To get to a specialization you have to go through the general skill.

How could you ever become a specialist in the right heart chamber of 14-year-old girls if you are not deeply knowledgeable in heart chambers in general?

A specialization often emerges when the specialists realize what makes the area they specialize in specific and different from a general application.

Will the above-mentioned heart surgeon be able to pick his patients and ask for higher prices?
You bet.

If anyone searches for this specific type of heart surgery, will google spit out his name faster than I can shout out yes to the question if I’d like a piece of cake?
100%.

Will he be asked to share his wisdom on conferences?
Yes again.

You see where this is headed 😉

I’m feeding you reasons why you should specialize!

Pick your niche and make yourself a name that is linked to that niche.

And then get visible with what you do and do that consistently.

As I know that it’s easy to get lost in this process, I’ll give you the main steps that I work on with my clients during 1:1 coaching:

  1. Do your due diligence: Look at your numbers and get clear about your status quo.
  2. Incorporate your special talents, values, needs and your favorite clients.
  3. Boost your credibility by finding every gem that supports your expertise.
  4. Create offers that are specific to your expertise AND solve a problem of your ideal client.
  5. Chose where you will get visible and do it consistently.

The most important thing is to have fun along the way.

And to always remember that nothing is written in stone.

If you see that you need to adjust – adjust.

If you realize that you had different ideas about what this niche would be like – pick another one.

But start!

Adjusting is always an option.

But if you don’t start, you’ll still be wondering in one year’s time if this one niche you’ve been thinking about would’ve been worth going for…
