Many health and life coaches get lots of certifications before getting visible. But is this really necessary or even helpful?

Here are impulses for a mindset shift that will benefit your communication strategy and stop procrastination.

I’m standing in the front yard pruning my roses.

Suddenly I hear a little voice and look up.

A cute little girl is standing in front of our fence looking up to my 6-foot 3 hubby Dean.

Hello, little lady. How are you today?

Fine. We will bake a pizza today!

(did I mention that I’ve never seen the kid before?)

Ah, that sounds awesome!

What will you put on the pizza?

Salami…

(some head nodding on Dean’s part…)

Then: I am already four years old!!!

(Proudly holding up four fingers)

I’m sure you experienced similar situations.

Over dinner we laugh about this encounter.

And then I ponder how sad it is that growing up most of us seem to lose the playful and excited impulse to talk about the things we are proud of…

Cos it feels like bragging…

We are afraid that our success is not sustainable…

Or we don’t want to sadden a friend that is struggling with what we just achieved.

(can you imagine that my mum even hid her being pregnant with me for quite a while to her very best friend (who is my dear godmother) because her friend had tried in vain to get pregnant?)

But isn’t talking about our joys and achievements making them more powerful?

But instead, we play small and hide what we achieved.

Does it make us superior?

Compared to some yes, compared to others no…

But the important thing is:

We as coaches need to talk about what matters for us and what shows our clients that we are the right fit for them.

One of the patterns I see over and over again is “if I finish the training on <younameit> I can start promoting my business”.

And that’d be fine, if this was actually true.

But I’d bet that after training x there is another certificate for y missing and then there is something else again, that would complete the expertise.

Until another offer comes around.

And you can play this game for a long time:

Getting prepared to blast off with your business…

When everything is perfectly set up…

At the point where you feel completely safe in what you do…

Aka: NEVER!

Point is, you already have so much to offer and adding more will not make it easier.

It will actually make it harder!

Cos putting everything into a business that feels deliberate & strategic gets harder with each additional moving part.

So, what can you do today to create a more strategic business?

YOUR NEXT STEPS

#1 – Look at your bio from a meta perspective – what are the parts that you are proud of and that set you apart?

#2 – Decide which parts of your bio you want to prioritize in your business.

#3 – Build your business around these gems that you uncover in the process.

#4 – Be clear in your communication.

Stay open and be ready for a surprise :-)

Keep moving

P.S. When my client Meike dug deep into her vita, she got a lot more clarity that now gives her more structure in her day.
She called it “nearly therapeutic”.
