How short cuts can take away the most important asset of your business – the authentic you! Beware when positioning.

“You need this!”

My friend puts a square box on the table…

She starts to unravel the thing and shows me different elements to…

… drumroll please…

… dice veggies.

I feel like standing around a promo stand in Munich’s pedestrian zone ;-)

All because a few days back I skipped on preparing a Thai curry as I was low on time and not up to cubing lots of veggies.

I LOVE to cook, and don’t mind the prep, but sometimes some sort of shortcut would be nice.

Enter the TOOL.

For just 49,95 my life will be so much easier and preparing dinner a hoot.

I will get 5 elements to cut my veggies to all the shapes and no wishes will be left open.

There is a setting for everyone!!

My friend is dead serious that this device will change my life, so I order it.

And then comes the let-down.

The cubes are too small with all settings and I still have to precut.

But the worst: it mushes some veggies and cleaning takes 30 minutes.

I send it back the next day and go back to my few proven tools: Wooden board and sharp knifes, but upgrade on my easy to clean slicer.

About 9 years later I’m still happy.

Cos I’ve chosen the tools that are right for me.

I wanted to take a short cut, but it led me down the garden path.

I’m certain you already understand where this story is headed to.

How often have you tried to use a tool or template that promised to solve your problem, safe time or be “fully customizable” – just to find out that

* you could do everything faster without the tool/app,
* the result still felt generic, because “fully customizable” meant you could choose 3 layouts in 20 colors and 10 fonts giving you 3*20*10 = the insanity of 600 options
(who would need more?!),
* you could bang your head against the wall as long as you wanted, how you wanted it to be structured or look would never happen.

Be careful in using templates, that promise to take away all your headache.

Chances are, they are taking away most of your personality and your chance to stand out in the noise.

And especially building a person-centered business you don’t want this.

Because it needs to show who you are.

So, whatever you’re creating has to really fit.

* How you like to work.
* Who you like to help.
* How you want to be seen.

Make sure, you are not taking the short cut when it comes to the essentials of your business, like niching, defining your signature offers and creating your stand-out message!
